so interestingly enough, that last blog took 2 days, 40+ attempts, and 1 question to blogspot help desk to "publish"... the "publish" button wasn't working at all. i could "save now" and "edit post" and etc, but it wouldn't let me publish. so someone wrote back to my question and said that i needed to click the "compatability view icon on internet explorer"... WTHeck? anyway... i did it. it worked. go figure.
now about pics...... still need to find the cord... arrrgh.

testing the waters--words only for now
WARNING: this is FULL ON baby book style. no pics at this point. will try to add some at a different time. this is attempt number 35 to post this on the 2nd day as blogspot wasn't publishing my posts yesterday. if i have trouble today, i'll likely convert this to a book if that's possible and switch to wordpress or something. we'll see.

fav hymns have really diversified... 400, 102, 318, 103, 32, 48, 30, 409, 319, 303, 1, 2, 220, 337, 341, 84, 232, 173, 92, 93, 58, 392, 207, 85, 10, 219, 372, 125, 105, 78, 373, 389, ??
I know that seems like a lot, but this child literally sings hymn for much of the day unless he's in situations he's feeling shy. he wakes up singing, goes to sleep singing. it's amazing. i'm thankful. it sure helps my spirit throughout the day. he knows at least 1 verse of ea. of the hymns, a few he knows all, some he knows 2. crazy.
he likes to play mtg now that isn't just regular Bible study... now he sets up a lego tower to be his microphone and leads the mtg. he has us sing 1-2 hymns (he likes choosing random numbers like 2 forty 2 1)... then he prays (" Our Father thank you for this food, we love mommy and daddy, and for joy, wiwingness, peace, nuh nuh hun hnnhuhnnnn , amen--the last part in a sing songy voice). then he sings. then he prays. then he sings and sits down looking at the microphone. :) and i need to be sitting right there as if i'm in the chairs. i love it. so one day, i said, "do you think you're going to be a worker some day?" and he said in a tone that suggested he was surprised at me for asking, "Mommm, i already a worker." so there ya have it.
buuuuuuuuuuuttttttttt...
lest you think that I think i'm raising a spiritually advanced kid... he also likes katy perry, wants me to turn up a random britney spears song (i figure, as long as i can't understand the words we're ok, yet), he tends to like techno dance music from the radio more than rock, tho there are exceptions, too... and he doesn't protest to country either. bluegrass is great as long as he can get his little hippie bounce going. he totally digs esperanza spalding's complex jazz ... and likes to hear violins, double bass, and saxophones. sooooo... i just need to expose him to a little more foo fighters to balance out all the nn-tiss nn-tiss nn-tiss.
he's just generally full of a billion questions... his words are really getting clear... except when he puts on this funny little intellectual sounding accent... and then basically i'm the only one that can decifer that one... i have no iea where he gets that one... it's not a voice i do, i don't think... and if anyone knows my heritage, we do have a lot of different voices. ;)
he loves to help/watch daddy weedwack, still loves vacuums, loves to help use the mixer and bake things, make rice krispie bars, etc. his current bkfst of choice is cinnamon toast crunch... or a blueberry muffin and honey yogurt... yay! yogurt is making a reappearance! whoo whooooo! he also loves waffles, and chipotles, vanilla jills, etc etc...
sometimes (for the last 6mo), before he goes to sleep for the night, he'll say, "Mommy, I wannnnnnnnnt, waffles in a waffle iron, pancakes in a pancake iron, choklate chip cookies, annnnnnnnnnnn, what else shall we have??" and then i say, "applesauce with cinnamon," and he says, "okkkkaaaaaaaayyyyyy"... and then i say, "we'll see what we can do"... love you! hee hee. :)
and his new one is, "mommy, what you goin to dream about? what daddy goin to dream about? what nana boat goin to dream about?" then i ask him... and he says, "SNAKES!" but they won't eat me while i sleep, mommy. so i say, nope, they'll be your friends (don't want any nightmares)... :) i love these exchanges. :)
anyway...
i know i'm missing a ton... but had to get these down.
pics later... if i can find the cord for the camera to upload them... i put it in a very special place during the move so i would for sure know where to find it. yeah.

i hate blogspot
i spent a considerable amt of time doing 2 blogs today to update pics and news in the past 1.5 months. i checked 2x to make sure i was writing it in this blog (i am a part of one other blog under blogspot). i went to check the other blog tonight and found these 2 blogs on that one (a group of women re: fitness/healthy living) instead of this personal one...
the stupid format or rules or whatever blogspot exists under wouldn't let me copy/paste it over here... it wouldn't let me print it... the other blog wouldn't let me export those 2 blogs (whatever that means) so i could import them into this blog... so i deleted and trashed a bunch of time and writing (memmmmorriieeeessss of j) AND pics. SOOOOO FRUSTRATING! i know i'm not the smartest technie in the bunch, but even the HELP BUTTON IS NOT HELPFUL.
anyway... too late to rewrite it now... so in another month when i'm over the stupidity of technology and rules about MY OWN WRITING and WHERE I CAN POST IT or COPY it.
why do i do this?

addendum to 2y4mo
I forgot to add some new things!!!!!
1. he loves to collect large (for his hands) rocks... the 2-3in diameter types... so we now have a collection of them in our apt... 8-10 of them... one time he filled his fleeceyfleecer sweatshirt pockets with small rocks... which i discovered in the washer after it had been washed.... with a full load... anyone need "stone washed jeans" redone?? guess i really need to start checking pockets.
2. he likes earthworms... hi mistohr ehrrrrrrthwrrrrm! bye bye mistohr ehrrrrthwrrrmm... he's not the most gentle... and the wormies he's finding have been drowned out of the dirt to thoroughly that they're bailing into the giant sandpits in our parks... so you know how good they must been feeling... poor wormies... and he does like to make them move and squiggle... ugh... really hoping he doesn't stick THOSE in his pockets.
3. he likes bugs.... he likes to have them crawl on him for awhile, watch them up close, then squish them... then is bummed cuz they no longer move around very well... or at all... gross. i really am trying to teach him to be nice and gentle to them... but... hmmm... this one is hard.
4. still loves throwing rocks in puddles, splashing in puddles, etc... he loves his rainboots now... one day the switch clicked... so it's not hard to get them on when necessary... it's still a little hard for him to walk in them.... but that's understandable.
5. currently he digs his sunnies (sunglasses)... and he picked out a new shark hat that he really likes to wear... yay! maybe we'll have some sun protection this summer... providing it comes out... at least we'll have some sun protection when we're in my favorite state and my home state.
6. puzzles continue to be big...
7. one of the first things you'll notice when you come to our house is various cords "plugged in" in a variety of places... one cord plugged into a lego building to "charge up his 'not working phone'"... one plugged into the arm rest of a chair and stretched way out... chargin up the chair... one plugged into his little piano where the "music holder" is... stretched out and connected to a chair on the other end = his gate... closed... he'll walk over to it and open it, go through, then close it again... you get the picture... we're always chargin' things up... his "puter" (or fyou-ter or cmputer), vacuums, little hand mixers, etc.
8. he's most excited to fly on the airplane this next time cuz he might get new earphones from the flight attendants... he really wants to know where they keep the extra earphones... in a closet perhaps? in the airport?? where, mommy, where?
9. hb has now been renamed nanny nanny and auntieree's dog is susielerks. daddy is daddio... and mama is mama or mahhhm. :)
10. he takes his job of helping daddio with the trash and recycling very seriously... last night he said "daddy, need to take a trash and re-cykling to the trash ehrya cuz iss fuuhlllll. please come witthhh me, daddy." :)

2y4mo+
Greetings-

while bonzymouse sleeps, mamamouse can type a quick blog entry. We've had lots of fun adventures this past month with visits from auntieree n uhmaj... playdates with some new friends (running friends of mine with kiddos)... we've been to the raptor (rehab/retirement) center and saw amazing birds of prey up close, we've taken a hike on a REAL trail and looked at tree trunk bark patterns, teeny tiny bugs that crawl along the bark, teeny tiny spiders that do the same, etc. we even froze our patoolies off at the beach one rainy/windy day... doggies loved it tho...
We've got new lincoln logs, which are awesome, new play doh implements, some 3T-4T (mostly 2T-3T wearing) clothes that are super cool, a new ukelele (that heather played when she was young), fun plastic easter eggs which have more uses than i might have imagined, and other fun things.... We sure are thankful to the providers of such fun things! Most of my pics are on my phone, but some did make it onto the camera... still need to figure out how to upload from my phone without including the past 2 years of pics have already been uploaded onto the computer. We also had some nice nights with one of our workers just recently... so j is really missing these special other ones in his life. thank goodness for skype!
J's getting a little more out-going at the library story hour... but my heart just hurts for him when he goes up to the front of the library room with all the other kids to pick up some claves (wooden sticks for music time) or something else and gets caught in the middle of alllll the kids because he gets soo uncomfortable-to the point of a few tears--he puts his arms out in front with his hands together as if to make a wedge to work his way through touching as few of the kids as possible... he doesn't like to get jostled by them--if he's in the front or the very back of the group he does ok... stays serious but retains the twinkle in his eye. One time he mis-timed it, it got too crowded for him, and he turned around with this almost panicked look on his face and said "mama, tooooo many kids"... then sat down in my lap. :)
he doesn't have any trouble when there's a few kids... or at the gym kids care area where the kids are spread out and toys are plentiful... or at parks... he's strong enough to turn some of the water features on by himself, which makes him the hero of the smaller kids, in particular, a couple cute little girls one time... sooo darling. he also got about 1/3 of a playground full of kids to sing a toddler rendition of haru ga kita (spring is coming) which is a library song we've been singing weekly... he only knew the first line and he was belting it out as loud as he could fairly on pitch while moving wood chips from 1 spot to another and back again... it was like a work song from the railroad line... HILARIOUS... and all the sudden there are 7-8 kids all moving the woodchips from point A-B-A singing a completely transformed (letters) version at the tops of their lungs... my face/head hurt from laughing for so long after that morning for a looonnnggg time...
one more thing on the crowd nervousness... i can't say i blame him overall... i'm not a huge crowd fan and there's no way i'd rush to be in the middle of a line at a best buy or walmart in the wee hours of black friday. It will be fun to see how this changes as we have more and more opportunities to be in group settings with his peers.
his words and sentences are getting more complex... he's having some understanding of this morning, yesterday, tonight, tomorrow... he is curious about the days of the week, but unless they have a particular activity associated with them (like sunday/mtg day/gospel mtg day), i don't know they have much meaning. i like that he's trying to use them tho.
he still sings throughout the day... hymns, a few kids song (itsy bitsy, farmer in the dell, oats peas beans, etc), and library songs... he's starting to pay attn to what they're singing on the radio... hmmm... gonna need to edit that a bit more i think. "mom, what's this song say?"
he likes to demonstrate things and say "likegiss?" or "likekiss?" or "no, mama, likegkiss". love it. :) and he continues to be a good helper boy... setting part of the table, unloading part of the dishwasher, picking up toys, etc.
he's improving in coming/stopping/starting/helping when asked on the first time... of course, when i acknowledge that, he immediately develops the kind of selective hearing that only a guy can have... as in, he hears nothing coming from me at all, but can hear a garbage man 2 blocks away or a cell phone vibrating 2 rooms away.
we're looking fwd to more airplane trips and visits to NE, CO, and hopefully Europe later in the fall when daddy has a 6+week stint over there... will keep things interesting for mommy! We also really need to get to seattle as we haven't seen our cousins there since last fall... and we haven't been to gpa/gmaz's since last summer... so we'll see how it all works out with all sz's work trips.... when he travels 2-3 weeks gone/1-2 wks home, it's pretty hard to get anywhere... especially where most of his trips involve a serious case of jetlag in both directions. his travel schedule also tends to be pretty fluid... which also makes it hard to plan. i think i've said this before... just continuing to explain.
Running's going along decently... have a 5 week push to my attempt to reset my road PR... gonna be a tall order... i'm hoping to sneak up on it and nip it.... as there's no hope for me to blast by it with lots of minutes to spare. :) i do believe my P90X and other exercises are helping me in the core/pelvic/hip stability arena... and i like the physical changes. i'm not following the p90x prescribed 6x/wk deal... but i'm doing 3-4 days/wk and sticking to my favorites... running is my priority.
if we'd ever get some sunshine (we did have a few days last week) that would stick around, all would be MUCH better.
oh, and for those who may have heard we're pregnant... can you tell me, please, how far along i am and what we're having so i know??? thanks. :) in other words... nope, not expecting... and i've even been doing my core work, so i don't THINK my stomach is pooching out too much??? hmmmm... better cut down on the cookies. :)

spring? spring? please spring?
well... we're nearing spring equinox and other than some buds and flowers on the trees... (are they confused?) i see no signs of spring... the weather is still bleeecchhhhh (high 30s-40s and rain rain rain rain rain... some wind... arrgh). we've had a steady cycle of colds since just after thanksgiving... jakob gets one about every 3 weeks... takes him about 7-10 days to get over them... during which time my immune system decides it's had enough and i get them... and by the time i'm getting over it, here comes the next one... throw in an extra bout of GI virus (the 5# weight loss in 18hrs kind) for me, pneumonia 1x for j (our first urgent care trip ever), and a nasty ear infection for the first time for j followed by another cold while still on meds for the ear infection (which came from a cold) and i'm about ready to fly the coop! bok bok buh-kock!
but on the non-whiney side... j likes buying me grocery store tulips... which i love... and then when they're about ready to croak, he gets to disassemble one or two... taking great pains to investigate each petal... each part of the stamen/pistil/pollen/whatever the appropriate names are... he wanted to eat the pollen like the bees and the birds do... i told him we should probably just enjoy the honey the bees made from it... annnnnnywayyyy... he's usually fairly bummed that he can't put it back together... nor can mommy... much like post-bug squishing... soooo bummed the bug won't crawl on him anymore... or the wings won't work... ugh! i do love the mind of a toddler scientist tho... and the discovery! and i try to make sure not too many bugs are damaged... tho i did squish a spider in our kitchen without thinking... oopsie... should have let him check it out first... then escorted it outside i suppose... sigh. :)
my role as a translation specialist is continuing to decrease... his singingis expanding, as well (more songs = less repetition! whoo whoo!) ... we're working on a 3rd grace to sing so we have a few more options for him to enjoy actually singing along with when at potlucks (he still loves these) and special mtgs and etc. he's loving play doh and "shooting baskets" with the cookie cutters and cups of play doh afterwards (into the storage box)... "art time with playyyy- dohh" as he calls it... most often done after a meal while still in his dining chair. :) all our new illnesses have allowed us to get established with a local pediatrician... and since she hasn't given him any shots yet, he really doesn't mind going! they also have a water fall out front and large cement frogs and elephants... coooooool! he loves taking his new glow-in-the-dark basket ball to the park and kicking it around on the BB courts... shooting baskets = not as much fun... and the soccer ball is more for riding in the BOB. building sand castles, squishing bugs (?) after watching and playing with them for awhile, and building sand castles are all still tops.
he loves gospel mtg... not only for the workers and the wonderful msgs he hears, i'm sure, but because they use a microphone... and a speaker... and there are fords/cords... i'm noticing him sidling up closer and closer to the tween/teen boy who packs them away afterwards... and he's really wanting to help put away chairs... but for the most part, it takes all his weight just to slide one towards the big boys who fold/lift them up... so that's his role for now... when not chasing around with his 2 best girlfriends and some other kids. :)
Baking is SUPER fun! especially the dough licking part... and a small clump of "brown sugar in my hand" as he always requests with a sweet please and "fayk youuuu" after... :) he is his mama's child on this one!
we went to the local family friendly irish festival last weekend and WHAT FUN!!!!! TONS of musical options in different rooms/areas of the high school... a craft area where kids could plant clover seeds... so we're growing some right now and he's LOVING to see it sprout up out of the ground... we had to have a little lesson on fragility after he pulled several out... oopsie! cool to see their fledgling root systems tho... and j danced and danced and danced in the area where anyone was invited to try out the folk dances with a caller and also a 3-pc irish band (guitar, fiddle, flute/whistle)... j preferred solo dancing... we tried out the group dancing together but it was a little overwhelming to him after awhile... i LOVE toddler dancing... lots of hand shakin' and arm waggin' with steps and marches and kicks and jumps all thrown in the pot... he was really liking turning circles and going fwd/bkwd just like the big people doing the "real" dancing... hilarious! we also heard some really talented folks too... some more formal, some more pub hoe-down, and one just amazing woman and her 2 man back up band that was cd/performing arts center quality. OH! and we watched hurling for a bit... holey moley... like BB/soccer/lacrosse with short sticks, small hard ball, and LOTS of contact... not much protective equipment... tho i suspect there are optional pieces the "manly men" choose not to wear. anyway... FUN! if i knew how to post videos on here from my phone, i'd have ya all entertained for sure! ;)
well, due to my extreme frustration with the weather and the germs (gym child care, restaurant high chairs, shaking sick meeting people's hands, and kids at the play ground who want to share j's sand toys with their snot covered noses and hands), i decided perhaps this would be a great time to take the plunge into... FINGER PAINT! ahhhhhhh! i've been avoiding this one simply due to the high mess potential... but we had our first trial today and it was quite fun... the fun ended when he just couldn't keep it on the paper and it started migrating enthusiastically and purposefully (with an evil glint in his grinning eyes) onto the table, his kiddie chair, chin, shirt, and pants... next time, NAKED (with diaper on) fingerpainting... :) thankfully, black table, dark grey clothes. :)
notice his little cup of clover seedlings... sprouts... whatever you call them! whoo whooo! not dead yet! well, except for those sprigs he pulled out. ;)

i have a few races planned... if all goes well and i stay healthy and nuclear fall out doesn't alter the landscape personally or in the desired locations and etc... one first part of june (road marathon), a trail 50k in july, 2 half marathon hill climbs (>vertical mile hill climbs, yeehaww!) in august... we'll see about later in the fall... will depend on travel and etc. will be fun to have a solid summer of running since i finally seem to be pain free from the post partum stuff and am getting some of my speed back... we'll see how it all translates. i certainly feel better when i have some physical goals to go along with other ones... so i'm pretty psyched! i really have some fabulous running friends here... which has made 5am running SOOOO much more fun... it's fun anyway... but when you're chatting and working hard with friends, it's MO BETTAH! and i have friends that will be at all the races except for one... mostly because most of my friends do not share my love of running/powerhiking as fast as i can up long hills for hours at a time. ;) not sure why.
anyone want to dog sit for 3 weeks and 4 ish weeks for us?? our house or yours... she's 12y/o golden... sleeps most of the time... wants some rubs and love occasionally but for the most parts, likes a nice spot to snooze... is best without another animal (tho all my dog sitters have said she did great with their animal and etc... but this is NOT the case if i'm present) and only kids that aren't going to tease her or try to lay on her... 12 = old. :)
cheers!
