UncleMJ after tasty sweettomatoes sunday lunch! vroom vroom!

i've been covering a vacation for a PT 2blocks away at the bottom of our hill since getting back from chelan... so granmamaj has been here nannying and supergrandmamaing... sooooo nice. j is just quite happy and content with her... i have one more day of work... then a day of j's 6mo doc visits and shots... booo hooooooo + dentist for me and massage for granmamaj... then... a few days of shopping and pre-babyproofing ideaing the condo... and and and... who know's what else!

chelan was wonderful... my folks buzzed up in their bonanza... grandpa/grandmaz were there (home conv) as were JTTz and AREKJZZ and greatgrandpar and auntiem and sooooo many other z cousins, great aunts/uncles, relatives, friends, etc.... it was great. lots of local friends buzzed or drove up for part/all the conv. as well. wonderful things heard as well. i wasn't good at taking pics... but we have some good ones on granmamaj and granpapaj's camera... if i can get them into our computer, i'll post later.

dearhubby and i got to run a 10k(hubs) and 13.1(me) in the "homesteading" area of my family out NW of here... what fun! 4000 people at that race (ish). 13.1- i LOVE that distance... i love ultras, too, but i think the half may just well be a perfect distance. rolling course... perfect cloudy and cool weather... but i must say... "road runners" are funny. yes, i run most of my miles on road and have most of my running years... out of necessity... but if i had my druthers, i'd run 75%+ on trails... and would race 99% on trails... so... this is just an observed thing that certainly doesn't apply to anyone "personally" reading this, etc etc... ok, disclaimers out of the way... things i've noticed about road runners (sorry, no pics):

1. they don't like to get their super white running shoes wet or dirty...

2. they run like you might walk down a street in NYC or something--look straight ahead, don't talk to anyone, don't smile, don't acknowledge, etc...

3. they take their mile markers, split times, pace times VERY seriously... as in... we're 1/2 mi down the road and someone (coach type, who's pacing someone) yells out "who knows what pace we're running?" and instantly, she has 5-6 people answering... most based on fancy watches that beep if they run too fast, too slow, too high in their range, too low in their range... and a few based on "feel" developed by running many many many many many repeats on a track to the point where they know pace that well. now... that's some talent, and i'm marginally jealous of that kind of "knowing yourself"... however... i do not like running track repeats... and prefer to base things on "even effort"... like you do on a trail... over hill and dale and rocks and roots and mud and etc. i could be a much better runner if... well, depends on how you define "better" i suppose... but i digress...

4. they often sing out loud to their headphones... and no, they do not belong on IDOL... this one guy kept repeating in a strange not quite monotone voice "i should kiss a girl, i should kiss a girl, it's time to kiss a girl"... so i sped up and passed and didn't see (or hear) him again...

5. they do not like hills. and they are not afraid to tell you... as they look at what's coming, run up them, and get done with them. one funny guy had a good one tho... we're by the swiss church and cranking up a short/steep climb and he says... "arrrghghgh uphills! i'm thinking of a 4 letter word!"... so i laugh... and he says, "d-o-w-n!"... now that was funny. :)

6. they (very few) do not answer you when you tell them "good job" or "strong work"... etc... as you pass them or meet them on an out/back... or even as they pass you... there were a few exceptions. a couple funny guys would give me a hard time for cheering specifically for the girls (the fast ones, that were were meeting already heading back on the out/back)... so i had to be fair. :) and i have to say... cheering for oncoming (or passing or passed) runners lifts your own spirits... which is reason number 142 that ultra running is so fun!

7. the volunteers at road races do not know what to say when you thank them for volunteering... they just stare at you like you spoke french.

that's enough for now. ;) i love trails... and ultras... and the ultra spirit that is usually present at our trail ultra races. and thank you, ea and every volunteer, for making it possible for the race to occur! and thanks, mom, for hanging with the bonzo!

j has decided avocados are quite tasty, for sure... smashed carrots on the other hand, "shiver me timbers"... literally... hilarious... we'll try again later...

pre and post toe eating... yum yum!

he's continuing to sit much better for playing... scooting in circles, backwards, and etc on his tummy while playing... and unfortunately in the middle of the nite = wakes up and criieeeessss cuz he can't figure out how to get back on his back to continue sleeping... so we're having a bit of a snafu on our usually excellent nites... and a big growth spurt... and two solid teeth on the bottom... and we think a new one on the top front about ready to make an appearance... poor little dude.

well... i'd better hit the sack... long work day tomorrow... and not much solid sleep the past few nites... i'm very much ready to go back to being a "stay at home mom"... and so, off i go to bed... marathon in 2wks for me... 13.1 for sz... time to start sleeping extra now. :)

cheerio!
