Xmas n New Years n Sledding, OH MY!
What a last month+ it's been! j had a bad cold towards the beginning of december that was just improved enough to allow for 2y/o shots as an almost birthday present at the check up... growing right along... the cough persisted... which would come back to haunt us during special mtg time... I, of course, ended up with a cold after j... because you can only be snotted on, sneezed on, coughed on so many times before your immune system throws in the towel. my xmas present was the noro or rotavirus... now that's some quick weight loss.... arrgh.... somehow j n sz managed to avoid that one... kudos to chlorox wipes, is all i can figure out...
J made quite the haul on xmas presents... many of my pics are on my celli... so the limited pics in no way indicate no one loves him or was thinking of him!!!
we had a total blast with our friends rctr in central oregon for new years... j had his first sledding experience x 2--1 with mommy as the sled dog... and 1 with his buddies on a sled down a real hill! he did NOT want that to end!!! it was awesome! oh so much fun back at the rented "ski chalet" with food and games and toys and stairs and remote controls of so many shapes and sizes... i blissed out on the sunshine, single digit early morning temps for perfect winter running, snow, blue sky, sunshine, dry air, did i mention the blue sky, clear night sky and stars???? yeaahhhhhhhhh! great time with mck's for sure!
special mtg rolled around and the afternoon of our potluck, j woke up from his nap a little warm... within 2 hrs, he had a raging fever, his cough had tripled and he was sicker than a wet noodle... or rather, so sick he was a wet noodle... his symptoms were indeed scary, but after some key phone calls to places like pdx's best ped hospital help line, we waited to take him to urgent care until he woke up in the morning... O2 sats were down and signs/symptoms indicated a chest xray was needed... "small amt of pneumonia" in his left lung. CRAZY!!!!! not suprising given the symptoms, but sure had no idea it was coming.... which they said was typical at this age... fast hitting... so... a week later after antibiotics, the bonz is sleeping like a champ, appears to be going through a growth spurt, and the cough is truly disappearing this time... unfortunately, again, after getting coughed, sneezed, snotted, and snorted on for a week, i'm now sick again with a cold. ARRRRGHGHGHGHGHGHGH! ENOUGH with the sickies!!!!!
so there you have it! we're having some sunshine, blow me away, and i am jonesin' to get out there and just lay flat out on the grass and soak it up... but then i'd start sneezing and wouldn't be able to breathe... so for now, i'll stay upright, with my sunnies on and a wad of kleenexes in my pocket, as j plays happily in the sand... after he wakes up from his afternoon nap. ;)
some j'isms:
-loving his tools... fixes our broken bathroom scale with his screwdriver... told me "mama, i need to fix my neck"... i said, "what's wrong with your neck?" and he answered... "i need a screwdriver!"... and proceeded to get his and hold it up to his neck, twirl it around a bit, and conclude "all fixed!" i guess i didn't learn that technique in PT school... looked pretty effective tho!
-loves to help me make tookies... and would eat the dough by the fistful if allowed.
-loves "brown sugar in my hand pleeeease"
-still big into legos, his blue egg chair, his red and black little ikea chairs, his 'puter from gma/gpaz stash, cords, hair dryers, helping grind coffee and use the press, helping unload the dishwasher, sorta helping set the table???... vacuuming... etc.
--fav hymns now include God is faithful, God is here, We have found him, and some others...
--he still hooks up cords to a few legos for his "mic" and "speaker" so he can sing, pray, and sing some more... sometimes the hymns turn into twinkle twinkle or thumbkin.
--he enjoys giving hb her treats in the morning
--he likes to go running... and even takes a water bottle sometimes... which usually has his "move it guy" in it rattling up and down singing "i like to move it move it... i like to move it move it"... whatever motivates ya, i guess!
--he thinks it's funny when i come back from a run with mud all over my legs (mama run in the muuuuuuuuuuuud!)
--he likes to wear a skirt... as in, one of his blankets clipped around his waist with a chipclip... and also his babysammy blanket around his shoulders with a clip
--he likes to "pounce" on daddy... and he likes to "nuggle" with mama
--he's taken to calling me "mom" sometimes... especially when it's at the end of a sentence... or when he's asking me something. what is he, 13y/o?
--he LOVES listening to violins/fiddles or any other music when out in public = he stops, looks/listens, and starts shaking his groove thing.... pretty much whiteboy moves, but some key clappin' and booty shakin in there for good measure from time to time! LOVE IT!
--library story hour, more importantly, the songs sung there, continues to be a fav.
--breakfast is no longer almond butter toast every single morning... we're now in a cereal rut... although he has had french toast the past few mornings... we're also making "moothies in the blender" about every other day... we make enough for the in between days and keep them frozen 'til the next day. he is the button pusher.
i'm sure i'm forgetting things... but these are on the top of my mind at this point. his chin can almost rest on the dining room table and his head now scrapes the underside of the "bar" that sticks out from the kitchen counter! he can ride his horsey himself as well as get on/off... and rody is getting bounced around a lot more.
skyping is one of his fav things... tho the person on the other end wouldn't necessarily know it as he's often the most quiet when the camera's on... but it sure is an awesome way to keep in face-to-face touch across the miles. he still plays his little piano and sings along... the tune played and the song sung are always completely different... must be a sign of extreme intelligence... ;) ha ha ha!
come see us! i'll chlorox wipe everything down before ya get here...
we're quite sad that we now have to pay for the extra airplane seat now that j is 2... poor us. ;)
cheers!

almost 2 y/o!
just a quickie... gotta jot some things down so i don't forget...
mr. j is loving singing actual songs now... not just his usual humming... tho there's plenty of that...
*fav hymns: tell me the story, more more about Jesus, in the shadow of the highest, follow me
*fav nursery rhymes: twinkle twinkle, itsy bitsy spider
*fav library songs: ramsamsam, hello/wave to friends welcome song, listen to the water/rolling down the river song
he often wakes up singing some form of these... which is so fun to hear coming from his room!
his nice clean, not-very-messy spoon and fork use has some how evaporated and now we're back to the standard 2 year old super messy science experiment ooey gooey squishy mess i thought we'd avoided or passed... arrgh.
he's been fighting naps with vigor this week... but may have more to do with the fast hitting nasty cold he's getting over
he's talking up a storm... doing great with some simple sentences now.. phrasing requests more fully (vs, MILK MAMA)... etc.
he pushes his stool and gets up to the counter wherever and whenever... and now that he's taller, things REALLY have to be pushed back or put up high!
he LOVED the "nutcracker" at the library by the Eugene Children's Ballet--and I did, too--condensed to 45 min with all the main songs! yay! the performers were amazing... ages 9-17... outstanding.
he really needs rain boots... splashing in puddles is the best no matter the temperature or footwear... thus, we change clothes frequently... they're next on my list to purchase.
he understands we need to "get on eh-plaihn go to omaha" to see uhmaj and papaj.... and we need to "go on roadtrip to oakland to see aunt meerrry"... and that papa jhn and uhma leenda might have a sander (belt sander that plugs in the wall) to play with... etc. :) he also wants to "go see beebee brysssn and ternanana"... so it still requires some translating, but it's getting better and better!
we're gearing up for a birthday party which should be fun! we could have chipotle tacos or pancakes or waffles... any would be his favorite... ice cream takes WAYYYYY too long to eat (he licks it... even off a spoon... and these are tiny licks)... so no ice cream cake this year (boo hoo)... but i'm sure any other cake, cupcake, tookie, or pumpkin pie would be just fine. ;)
gotta get some photos up from our trip to CA... lots of fun had by all... his stair climbing and descending skills are much improved thanks to auntieM's house... he LOVED her hoses... path through the garden, outdoor fireplace. matryushka (babushka) nesting dolls, ocean rocks, and SOOOO many other things... light switches he could reach, oh so many things. :)
hope to meet our new cousin and see the grandparents from up north soon! as well as our other cousins and aunties and uncles and friends and grandparents and and and.... :) i'd better get over the cold j so kindly shared with me first! :)
cheers!
pics coming...

Fall Pics
Greetings-
Well, it turns out that I'm taking more pics on my phone than I am on my camera... and the phone is much more time intensive to upload to the computer than the camera... perhaps because I don't know the easy way to do it... alas... I'll be including camera pics from this fall...

we drove to OH that weekend, via Niagara Falls, to visit our dear friends in Akron... MUCH FUN was had there... SZ headed back to Toronto for the work week and J and I stayed for a few more days... and with 5 kids 5 and under (including J), MUCH energy was expounded and enjoyed by all... even if J was a little overwhelmed a few times by the concept that not only did he have to try to share immensely cool toys with ONE other kid, sometimes MORE than one kid... OMGoodness... he started running to me with a toy (asking me to Hooohd it mommy) if he thought someone else might want it... he also started snatching things sometimes... and hoarding... soooooo.... guess we're getting into the 2's. ;) hee hee! it was a great learning experience for him... and to this day, he still talks about his friends and wants to go see them. OH how i wish we lived closer! The adults even got in a fabulous yoga class, a trail run, and some wonderful conversations. what a treat!
J and I made our way (via EP's chauffeur service) to the GOOD LIFE state via a couple plane rides (which J loves, cuz he can have earphones... he doesn't listen to anything on them or really even use them in his ears... he just likes plugging them into every hole he can find... including ones on his keen shoes... and pretending to talk to uhma and papa on them... or singing his fav song "fav-uh tankthee" into them microphone style...
And with that flight, we enjoyed FABULOUS gma/gpaJ time... as well as a quick visit with my best high school friend and her kiddos... we also got to see KM and L as they helped the RedBull Human Pony Express runner complete his mission of running the pony express route from Sac-St Joe, MO... so that was a fun, random coincidence!
We visited a Fire Truck Museum, the K Kidzone Children's Museum, a Pumpkin patch with fainting goats/mini pony, donkey, dog, tractor, and corn pile (like a sandpile)... we watered things, helped gmaj carve a pumpkin, spent lots of evening hours POUNCING on papa... hung out with auntieree and puppySuz... made cake with gma... and so many other things... we weathered 30-45mph winds on a few days... makes running interesting... but otherwise had perfect weather for the whole trip! we even got to see uncleDandauntieP in BB... but despite uncleD's attempts, we did NOT want to ride or even rev the motor on his 4-wheeler... bummer for mommy. :) OH the fun!!!!!
We then concluded the month with a few days in my most favoritest state visiting with auntieree again, seeing baby NONO and his family, and our dear friend AS and a few of her boys... and then hopped the silverbird back to rainyville!
so here we are. i think hb has forgiven us for the most part... and j's ready to see his best girlfriends for some play time! mommy needs to get some fun things scheduled into our weeks as we prepare for the onslaught of a winter full of blech rain. i suuuurrrreee miss the 75, dry, and sunny of my favoritest state!
New haircut/style courtesy of auntieree at the COOLEST kid's barbershop!
I have a hilly trail/dirt road marathon coming up this weekend... which was NOT adequately trained for by spending the last month in the flatlands... but that's ok... will still be fun to be there!
and the Huskers are doing well. :)
